Danish double Bassist Jasper Høiby brought us this new album Planet B which is the first in a series. Jasper masterfully creates and writes music, with a strong message and a lot of inspiration and meaning. Planet B starts with an intense intro talking about our place in the universe then slowly zooms in different places on earth following multiple stories at once. A beautiful album that will take you on a journey of realization. An incredible piece of work to say the least. Planet B was released with the UK record label “Edition Records” earlier this year. Can’t wait for the follow up!
The Diabolical Liberties – High Protection & The Sportswear Mystics
The Diabolical Liberties is the project by Rob Gallagher (aka Earl Zinger and Doug Carramouche) and Alex Patchwork (head of square-pushing). High Protection & The Sportswear Mystics is their first LP release and brought to you through the record label On The Corner. This fantastic album is described as an unpolished gem of a record that falls clumsily in the gaps between post-punk, electronica and jazz. Like a poetic journey of self discovery and reflection into the past, it will bring you back a few years into a sweaty & smoke filled basement club where people were dancing their balls off after munching on unspeakable substances. This is a great album to have a transcending experience on. The vinyl came with a really nice booklet which has photos and words that expands on the album. Definitely a must have record in any respectable collection.
Asher Gamedze – Dialectic Soul
Hailing from Cape Town, the South African drummer Asher Gamedze releases his debut album Dialectic Soul via the Londonian imprint On The Corner. The album is absolutely mesmerizing with its deep message and atmosphere. Taking inspiration from classic jazz legends, the album is very modern none the less. Asher express his thoughts with a freeform jazz, taking us back to the roots while giving us matter to reflect. It’s an incredible album from start to finish filled with impactful songs. Easily one of the best jazz releases of 2020.
Jesse Koolhaas – Click Me
Dutch producer and sound designer Jesse Koolhaas dropped his latest album earlier in 2020 via the Belgian label Urban Waves Records. “Click Me” is a modern piece blending electronica, jazz and ambient. Unravelling like a motion picture’s soundtrack, the album depicts the imaginative world of Jesse Koolhaas. A meditative album that will help you achieve inner peace through analogic synthesized sounds and blips. Here’s modern ambient music at its finest. A must have, there’s only an handful vinyl stock left too!
Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids – Shaman!
Hailing from San Francisco, the West Coast jazz maverick Idris Ackamoor is joined by The Pyramids for this incredible album titled Shaman! that will take you on a transcending spiritual journey. Surprise Chef – Daylight Savings
The Aussie Band from Melbourne Surprise Chef is back with a absolutely incredible album titled “Daylight Savings” which came out on the Mr Bongo imprint. The music on this album is out of this world amazing. Surprise Chef will take you back a few decades with their incredible live jazz-funk performance. The sounds are all super authentic, you can feel the classic synths, guitars and percussions. And to make it even more jaw-dropping it came out on this creamy white vinyl edition that feels super vintage. One of the most wonderful releases of 2020 for sure.
Trigg & Gusset – The Way
The Dutch band Trigg & Gusset dropped their third album “The Way In” earlier this year. You have to think modern Jazz but with a dark and noir atmosphere, with bits of electronic music that gives it the extra touch of heaviness. The Way In is a dramatic cinematic experience to say the least. A marvelous road trip into the night, an evening walk into neon light streets, a drink and smoke in a smoke filled basement jazz club in the last century. Even if all that seems a bit much to you, don’t let it get in the way, try out playing this one cause once you’re in, you’ll get hooked. It’s a beautiful experience from start to finish. The vinyl sounds really nice as well. Might just be what you have to add to your collection!
Butcher Brown – #KingButch
Butcher Brown, the funk band hailing from Richmond, Virginia just dropped their 8th project and this time with the complicity of the label Concord Jazz based in Los Angeles. This album is easily one of the highlights of the year when it comes to music releases. One of their most accomplished project to date as well. Such an enjoyable listen, specially on vinyl with the warm sound that gives the funky vibes the analogic quality it deserves. Big recommendation for 2020 right here!
Contours & Yadava – Cosmic Echoes
