Misch and Yussef Dayes – What Kinda Music

One of the biggest happening in the world of music in the last few months was “What Kinda Music” a collaboration between Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes. The album made such a buzz and the love it got is totally deserved. The two musicians are touring together and they might come near you in 2021. Our local date is already sold out months in advance though. Even under times like these some events are not to be missed. The album came out on legendary Jazz label Blue Note. If you are living under a rock and haven’t heard this one yet well check it out without further ado, we thought we’d mention it though.

Etuk Ubong – Africa Today

Etuk Ubong is a Nigerian Trumpeter and band leader. His music draws from Jazz and African inspirations, he developed his own genre he call “earth music”. With a strong message his music flows perfectly. The album released with the label Night Dreamer was captured live and directly pressed into disc at Haarlem’s Artone Studio, an incredible studio equipped with amazing vintage setup. This method of recording takes us back at least half a century ago. Providing one of the purest form of sound. Thanks to the incredible sound engineering work it’s like you’re sitting in the recording studio with the musicians. Collaborating with Michael Awosogo and musicians from the UK & Netherlands. The album was recorded just in one sitting from start to end on the last day of a five days session. The result is simply breathtaking.

Ross McHenry – Nothing Remains Unchanged

Released on the brilliant First Word Records, “Nothing Remains Unchanged” is the new album by the incredible Aussie producer and multi-instrumentalist Ross McHenry. Joined on this album by jazz luminaries Eric Harland (drums), Ben Wendel (saxophone) and NYC-based Australian pianist Matthew Sheens. Recorded over the course of three intense studio days in New York. The album is flowing like a gentle river it feels relaxed and energized at times offering a great listening experience. Without a doubt one of the highlights of the year 2020!

Yussef Dayes & Kamaal Williams – Black Focus

Black Focus was released by the collab of two geniuses, Yussef Dayes & Kamaal Williams together as Yussef Kamaal. Simply one of my favorite albums of all times. Little throwback to 2016 when the album was released on Brownswood Recordings. As any other instant classic this album will always feel fresh everytime you go back to it. Keeping a modern approach but with a vibe that is reminiscing of 70’s funk and jazz music. Black Focus is one of the master pieces of the last decade. A must have in any respectable collection.

Jasper Høiby – Planet B

Danish double Bassist Jasper Høiby brought us this new album Planet B which is the first in a series. Jasper masterfully creates and writes music, with a strong message and a lot of inspiration and meaning. Planet B starts with an intense intro talking about our place in the universe then slowly zooms in different places on earth following multiple stories at once. A beautiful album that will take you on a journey of realization. An incredible piece of work to say the least. Planet B was released with the UK record label “Edition Records” earlier this year. Can’t wait for the follow up!

Mammal Hands – Captures Spirits

Captured Spirits is the new album from 2020 by Mammal Hands brought once again with the complicity of Gondwana Records. With each new album the Norwich band evolves and introduces new styles into their music. They never disappoint, for this album they brought touches of spirituality that give us matter to reflect. This is an incredible Modern Jazz album that breaks free from boundaries and expands our perception. It’s a must have in your collection and an album to listen to in every situation.

Mammal Hands – Floa

Today is a throwback post to a release from 2015 with one of our favorites records. “Floa” released on Gondwana Records by Mammal Hands, a Jazz/Folk band from Norwich in the UK. Their music and sound will always make your mind travel into a spiritual world, flying like a bird over forests, tundra, glacier and such natural landscapes brimming with animal life and flora. As soon as you play their music a sensation of freedom and lightness will take over your soul. A truly magical experience.

Nubya Garcia -Source

One of the most incredible album drop of 2020 is “Source” by Nubya Garcia. The amazing Saxophone player, song writer and producer from London brought us this outstanding piece of work that is absolutely perfect. She’s making a super impactful debut with an album that will leave a mark on the jazz/dub genres forever. This is an incredible year for Jazz music in London without a doubt. Released on Concord Jazz.
